According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1213, “Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism, we are freed from sin and reborn as sons and daughters of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission…”
Infant Baptism
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of the Seven Sacraments. At St.Joseph/St. Anne, the Sacrament needs to be arranged with the office, and the Pastor. The parents of the child being baptized, must be registered with the parish, and be practicing Catholics. Parents are expected to participate in a Baptismal Instruction Class held at the Parish Office.
We ask the parents to choose someone to serve as the godparent / sponsor for the child being baptized. Because the sponsor’s role is to assist parents in the growth of the child in the Catholic Faith, we urge the parents to select someone who will look upon this role seriously, and who will be a role model for the child. The sponsor, by Church Law, must be at least 16 years old, have already been confirmed, and is a practicing Catholic.
To schedule a Baptism, please contact the parish office four weeks in advance of the Baptism.
